Storing your Golf Gear for the Winter

As the golfing season comes to a close, it’s important to remember that spring will be here before you know it. It’s even more important to store your gear properly, so that come spring everything is still working as it should.

Storage

Be sure to store your clubs and golf back in a warm and dry place. If you have a place that is temperature controlled like a heated garage, that’s best. If you store your clubs somewhere with changing temperatures, your clubs can be damaged or get warped. It’s best to keep your clubs away from the cold. It’s also important to keep the area where you store your golf gear dry, as moisture can warp or damage gear too.

Store your clubs in a space where they can be in an upright position. If your bag falls over in a closet, or gets stepped on, you could do irreversible damage to your golf clubs. Find a place for them, where they’ll be out of the way, and less likely to be jostled and damaged.

Cleaning

It’s the thing that everyone hates to do, clean your golf clubs. Unfortunately, it’s one of the most important things to do before putting your clubs away for the season. If you store your clubs all winter with grit, dirt or grass on them, they definitely won’t last as long. Be sure to clean and completely dry your clubs before storing them away. After you clean them, be sure to put head covers on. They’re designed to prevent scratches and dust on your clubs, so let them do the job they’re designed to.

Before putting your golf bag away, check it, and empty it out. Get rid of old granola bars or any other food, as you don’t want to attract critters to your storage area, or have anything rotting in your bag over the winter. It’s also important to be sure you’ve gotten all gear, like used t shirts or wet rain jackets out of your bag. Leaving dirty clothes or towels can lead to a smelly bag, come spring.
