2024: A Year of Growth and Accomplishments

This year, we focused on improvements to enhance playability, beautification and course maintenance, all while fostering a stronger sense of community. Here’s a snapshot of the accomplishments that defined 2024:

Playability and Course Enhancements

  • Cart Paths: We paved new cart paths on holes #10 and #11, and repaired three cart bridges, improving access and safety.
  • Tee and Green Improvements: Leveling, seeding and sodding projects on #12 tee enhanced its condition, and we beautified tee areas on #2 and #17.
  • Water Management: Old ponds on holes #2, #5 and #7/8 were filled in and seeded, creating a more cohesive landscape. Placed OB and water stakes throughout the course.
  • Tree Maintenance: We removed one tree and trimmed several others, improving sightlines and playability.
  • Cart Path Modifications: Portions of cart paths near #3 green and #15 pond were removed, blending these areas more seamlessly into the course.
  • Sensitive Area Protection: Tees and greens were roped off to preserve their condition, and out-of-bounds and water stakes were strategically placed throughout the course.

Community and Clubhouse Updates

  • Volunteer Efforts: Our “Weeding Wednesday” homeowner volunteer group played a key role in course beautification.
  • Clubhouse Improvements: Repairs to the clubhouse roof and updates to our Edge Menu, including weekly specials, elevated the experience for our guests. We also introduced daily drink specials and family buffet dinners.
  • New Features: GPS was installed in all carts, offering real-time navigation.

Innovative Solutions

  • Sage Rat Mitigation: We installed six raptor perches to address sage rat overpopulation naturally.
  • Maintenance Equipment: Investments in new equipment, including a hydroseeder and verticutter, have improved course upkeep.
  • Amenities: Drinking fountains on holes #6 and #13, along with ball washers on carts, enhanced convenience for players.

Welcome to Our New Golf Course Superintendent

A big change is on the horizon as we say farewell to our Superintendent, Paul Meridith, who has served River’s Edge with dedication for the past 2.5 years. We wish Paul the best in his future endeavors and thank him for his contributions to the course’s development.

Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to welcome Coulee Prince as our new Superintendent in 2025. Coulee brings a wealth of experience, including hosting a PGA Tour event and volunteering at multiple U.S. Opens. As a Bend native who grew up playing at River’s Edge, Coulee has a deep connection to the course and a strong commitment to public golf. We look forward to his leadership as we continue to elevate River’s Edge.

2025 Goals and Plans: Building on Momentum

The upcoming year promises exciting advancements across the course. Here are some of the major goals and projects planned for 2025:

  1. Eliminating Bare Spots

We’ll prioritize resodding troublesome areas on greens, collars and approaches in early spring. These areas will receive continuous attention to ensure pristine conditions during peak season.

  1. Enhancing Practice Facilities

The driving range and practice putting green will undergo significant improvements, including the potential addition of natural grass hitting bays. Our goal is to make these facilities as exceptional as the rest of the course.

  1. Leveling Tee Boxes

Building on our success with #12 in 2024, we’ll continue leveling and resodding tee boxes throughout the course. First up: the #5 tee, which has already been prepped for renovation.

Additional Improvements

  • Bunker Removal and Naturalization: Over several years, bunkers identified for removal will be transitioned into naturalized areas. The remaining bunkers will be refreshed with new sand and edging.
  • Simplified Tee Markers: We’ll return to three tee markers (red, white and black), helping to preserve the teeing grounds and improve course rating consistency.
  • Enhanced Cart GPS Technology: Upgraded GPS systems will feature larger displays, geofencing for protecting sensitive areas and the ability to communicate with the pro shop and to order from the café at the turn.
  • Public Announcement System: A new PA system will improve communication with players around the clubhouse and practice areas.

Looking Ahead: Join Us in 2025

With so many exciting improvements in the pipeline, 2025 is shaping up to be a stellar year for River’s Edge Golf Course. We’re committed to providing the best possible conditions and amenities, fostering community engagement and solidifying our reputation as one of Central Oregon’s must-play courses.
