The grip you have on a golf club, might be the most basic thing that you learn when first playing golf, other than navigating the golf course. Maybe it’s because it’s the first thing we learn, but it can also be one of the most problematic in advanced players. One of the easiest ways to think about holding a golf club, is to old it like you’re holding a heavy suitcase. Pretend you’re picking up a suitcase, and let the suitcase rest in the creases of your fingers. Some instructors tell you to pick up the golf club with it resting diagonally across your palm, but if you think of the way you’d hold a suitcase, it would be in the crease of your fingers.
Then you add your right hand to the grip, and curl your fingers around the underside of the grip. Let your other fingers fall where they may. Some people like to use a 10 finger grip but it’s not as common for most golfers.
